On Friday afternoon, the Brookline Warriors played their eighth match since the beginning of preseason, against the Walpole Rebels. With weary legs and fatigued bodies, the Warriors struggled to maintain their possession game early on in the match. However, late in the first half, Elijah Elmore bolted down the left sideline, past the rebel defense, and got off a perfectly placed cross to Henry Belt. Belt was able to place it past the Walpole keeper to bring the Warriors to a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Warriors walked out of the half with a few changes to the lineup and a new strategy, but unfortunately the Rebels had a few tricks up their sleeve as well. About 20 minutes into the second half, the Rebels lined up on the goal line for a corner kick in front of the Warrior defense, led by Edmund Geschickter. Outsized, the Rebels were able to knock an easy header past Geschickter for the final goal of the match, tying the game at 1-1.
Brookline’s next match is on Tuesday afternoon (9/9) at Skyline Park against Wellesley High School.
